Privacy
Friend Loom is a private club, and privacy is the product, not a setting. Here is exactly what we hold, why we hold it, and what we will never do with it. Last updated August 22, 2026.
01We never sell, rent or share your personal information with advertisers, data brokers or anyone else for money.
02Your small loom hour is never recorded. Some community-wide events are, and they are always labelled and announced before they start.
03There are no public profiles. Nothing about your membership is visible on the open internet or indexed by search engines.
04We show no advertising inside the community. We do advertise Friend Loom itself elsewhere, and we never hand your information to advertisers to do it.
What you tell us when you join. Your name, email, rough location or time zone, the chapter of life you are in, and what you like talking about. We use it for one thing: seating you in a loom where you will fit, and reaching you about your own calls and events.
Billing details. Handled by our payment processor. We see the last four digits of your card, the amount and the date. We never hold your full card number.
Attendance and scheduling. Which events you dialled into, so your host knows who is expected and can check in on a member who goes quiet. Nobody outside your loom and its host sees this.
What you post in the members' room. Photos, recipes and notes you choose to share. Visible only to the members of that room, and deletable by you at any time.
Recordings and transcripts of recorded events. Where an event is labelled as recorded, we keep the recording, an AI-generated transcript and the notes we draft from it. Details below.
Basic technical logs, and marketing analytics on this website. Device type, browser and errors, kept so the help line can fix what broke. This public marketing site also uses analytics and advertising cookies so we can measure our own ads. The members' area itself carries no advertising trackers and no cross-site profiling of members.
Your loom hour is not recorded. The weekly call with your own small group is never recorded by us, and members are not allowed to record it either. Hosts ask anyone recording on their own device to stop, and end the meeting if they do not.
Some community-wide events are recorded. Larger events such as the life story hour, member-led lessons and the joke jar may be recorded so we can turn them into articles, guides and other content that helps people find the community. Every recorded event is marked as recorded on the calendar and announced by the host before it begins. You can attend with your camera off, stay silent, or skip it entirely, and no event is ever mandatory.
How AI is involved. Recordings of those events are transcribed automatically by an AI transcription service, and we use AI tools to help draft articles from the transcript. A person edits and approves everything before it is published. Your recordings and transcripts are not used to train anyone else's AI models.
What we publish. Published pieces use first names or no names at all by default, and we remove identifying details such as surnames, employers, health specifics and locations. If we want to publish something that identifies you, quote you at length, or use your voice, face or full story, we ask you first and take no as an answer. Tell us at any time and we will cut you from an unpublished piece, or edit or remove a published one.
Where recordings live. Zoom hosts the meeting itself as our service provider. Recordings and transcripts are stored with access limited to the small team that produces content, kept for up to 24 months, and then deleted. Recordings are never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never released to another member.
Your loom sees your first name, your face on the call, and whatever you choose to say. Your host sees the same, plus your attendance and any note you send them. Our small support team can see your account details when you contact us for help.
Gift memberships are one way on purpose. If somebody gifts you a membership, they can see that the membership is active and paid. They cannot see your loom, your attendance, your posts or anything you said. That dignity is the point.
We use a small number of companies to run the club: Zoom for video, an AI transcription service for recorded events, a payment processor for billing, an email provider for the messages that tell you when your call is, Amazon Web Services for the members' area, and Cloudflare for this website. They may only process your information to provide that service to us, never for their own purposes. The security and compliance page lists every one of them.
While you are a member, plus 90 days after you cancel in case you come back. Recordings and transcripts of recorded events are kept for up to 24 months. Billing records are kept for seven years because tax law requires it. Ask us to delete your account and we delete everything else, including your posts in the members' room, within 30 days.
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. One email to privacy@friendloom.com is enough, no forms and no hoops. We answer within 30 days, usually the same week. Members in the UK, EU and California have these rights in law as well, and we apply them to everybody.
We run ads for Friend Loom on search engines and social platforms, because people who need this have to be able to find it. Those ads are about the community, and the material in them comes from our own writing, from recorded events handled as described above, and from members who have given written permission to be featured.
We do not give advertising platforms your name, email or membership details to target ads at you, we do not sell or rent member information to anyone, and we show no third-party advertising inside the community. This marketing site uses standard advertising and analytics cookies to measure our own campaigns, and your browser controls apply to them.
If a host hears something that suggests a member is in immediate danger, we may contact emergency services or the person you named as an emergency contact. We will tell you when we do. That is the only situation in which we would pass on what was said in a room, and it exists to keep people alive, not to police conversation.
Friend Loom is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect anything from children.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we email every member before it takes effect. No quiet edits.
Questions, or want your data deleted? Write to privacy@friendloom.com and a person will answer. See also our terms of service and security & compliance.
