If you've noticed the signs, shorter calls, a quieter voice, “oh, nothing much” every week, you're not imagining it, and you're not alone either. A Friend Loom membership gives your parent a standing weekly call with the same small group of peers and a trained host. Not a chore for them. A highlight.
Set up in ~3 minutes · We do a practice call with them · Cancel any time

“Dad has his Thursday thing now. He tells me the news.”
Most seniors won't say the word “lonely.” They say these instead.
01 Every call, “nothing much” happened, and it's true.
02 The TV is on from morning to night, for the voices.
03 They repeat the same three stories, nobody new asks.
04 Appointments became social events they dress up for.
05 They call about small things, then keep you on the line.
06 Since the funeral or the move, “the neighborhood changed.”
07 You feel guilty hanging up. Every single time.
Gifting is easy
Tell us about them, their time zone, what they love talking about, how comfortable they are with a tablet.
We find the right loom, send their Zoom link with a big-print guide to dialling in, and leave the practice room open for a dry run. You do nothing.
Same group, same hour, every week. You'll hear about it, because for once, they'll have news.
Very normal. Frame it as a gift, not a fix: “I bought you a Tuesday thing, try it twice for me.” Most reluctant members are regulars by week three, the group does the convincing, not you.
Only members we've seated, plus a trained host in every call. Their weekly loom hour is never recorded, there are no public profiles, and no way for strangers to reach them. Larger community events are sometimes recorded for articles, always labelled in advance. It is the opposite of an open chat room.
Only what they choose to tell you, their loom is private, and that dignity is the point. Our experience: they'll tell you plenty.

The community
Friend Loom is a private online community for people who want real connection. You share your stories, you follow the members whose lives interest you, and you join as many events as you like from your computer, phone or tablet. Members lead most of them, so the calendar changes every month. Nobody phones you, and nobody minds if you sit a week out.
Every member has a page inside the club: where they are from, what they know about, the stories they have told. Follow anyone and you will see when they post or host something. Private to the community, invisible to the open internet.
Post the long version: where you grew up, the job nobody knows about, the year everything changed. Members read it, ask about it, and remember it next time you speak.
Smaller rooms built around one thing: books, cards, walking, genealogy, veterans, caregivers. Join as many as you want, or start the one you wish existed.
Put your own event on the community calendar: a hymn sing, a trivia night, a walk and talk, a lesson in the thing you are best at. We help you run it and fill the room.
Photos, recipes, the finished puzzle, a thinking of you. Conversation carries on between events, with no feed to scroll and no likes to chase.
Birthdays get sung to and someone notices when you miss the events week after week.
A regular rhythm every week, plus whatever members put on the calendar this month. Come to one, come to six.
